Cricket
Beckington has one of the oldest surviving cricket clubs in the county with records dating back as far as 1884.
2009 will be a remarkable season for Beckington Cricket club regardless of any league results or cup triumphs that may occur on the pitch. For this coming season represents the monumental milestone in our clubs history as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of our village team. In fact we believe the club to be much older than this as our earliest documentation refers to 1884 as the “re forming of the village cricket club”. As a result it would make it amongst the oldest clubs in the country! What is interesting as I look through the many scorebooks and memorabilia of our history is that many of the names of previous players and friends of the club are still to be found in and around our wonderful village. So this suggests the club is not just here for those of us who represent it on the field or indeed those who follow and support it, it is part of the history of our village. It has been enjoyed by villagers for the previous 125 years with your help it will be here for future generations to enjoy.
We would like to extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to play cricket to join us and for anyone who wishes to be involved with the club in any way from helping out with the pitch, teas or indeed to umpiring then please get in touch with us. If you would like to help financially then please contact me on the details below. If none of these are possible we would simply welcome your support at any of our matches and there is always plenty of tea for those who wish to join us.
