Village Day 2010
There’s so much happening this year that we’ve had to bring the starting time forward to 11.00am. There’ll be plenty for all the family to see and do. Admission is FREE but all cars must follow the signs to the car park for which there is a £2-00 fee. The proceeds from Village Day will be used to maintain and improve our Memorial Hall facilities, including an exciting project to replace the existing changing rooms and to provide new sports facilities, perhaps including a skateboarding and/or cycling area on our site.
Here’s what’s happening this year:
Music
We have two famous bands to entertain us. Paprika Reloaded have performed their incredible fiery brand of traditional and gypsy music at Glastonbury, the Royal Festival and the Royal Albert Halls and have had sell-out tours as far away as Japan, Australia and New Zealand. It’s terrific that they are coming to Beckington and we must give them a great reception.
You’ll also want to tap your feet to the traditional jazz that will be played later in the afternoon by the talented and very popular French Connection Jazz group.
Entertainment
David Seamark and his Sheepdogs will demonstrate the skills involved in shepherding sheep – but using geese! This is always fun as the geese often have their own ideas of how to entertain us. There will be opportunities for children to participate in these displays.
The Bathampton Morris Men are a firm favourite wherever they perform and we are very pleased to have them back in Beckington bringing a lovely country village atmosphere to our Village Day.
That’s not all! There’ll be a thoroughly entertaining puppet show performed by Dangerous Dave! And there’ll be a spectacular performance by Dom the Juggler, whom you may have seen entertaining the crowds in Bath. Beckington’s schoolchildren will be kicking the entertainment off from 1100 with some country dancing and cheerleading. We’ve also got a couple of Somerset Yokels to make us laugh and, in the middle of the afternoon, there’ll be some spectacular tussles between local tug-of-war teams.
Fun Dog Show
What about entering your dog for one or more of the seven classes in this light-hearted event – Crufts, though, it is not! Make sure you arrive in good time to register your pet before the first class starts at 1.30pm.
Children’s Rides
There’ll be a Bouncy Castle, an Obstacle Course, a Big Wheel and Swingboats to tire out the kids.
Sideshows
As usual there’ll be a wide variety of stalls and sideshows, including Craft Stalls, a Coconut Shy, Chainsaw Wood Carving (It has to be seen to be believed!), our own very popular Bottle Stall and a Skittles Competition.
Refreshments
The range of refreshments available will be wider than ever. There’ll be a Hog Roast, supplemented by some other B-B-Q food. Sandwiches and cakes together with teas, coffees and soft drinks will be available in the Memorial Hall itself. There’ll also be a separate Beer Tent offering traditional beers, cider and wine. And, of course, ice creams.
NOTE:
All planned activities, competitions, sideshows, stalls and arena events etc. are subject to weather and availability on the day.
